Yesterday, in Linda Marynov's Think Tank study group, I learned that New York law allows you to revoke or amend a beneficiary designation in your will.
EPTL 13-4.6 (Effect of registration in beneficiary form) provides, in relevant part:
(b) A registration in beneficiary form can be revoked or amended by an express direction in the owner's will which specifically refers to such registration.
While this provision offers flexibility in estate planning, it’s important to understand its implications fully. Stay tuned for an upcoming post where I’ll discuss some potential downsides and considerations.
